Install Leya Baby Monitor from the invitation

Follow these steps after you receive the invitation email. It takes about five minutes and needs two Android phones on the same Wi-Fi network.

Most important: use the right Google account

Google shows the test version only to the Google account whose address was added to the tester list (the address that received the invitation). If another account is active, the app page in Google Play will not open or will say it is unavailable. Check the account in two places: in the browser where you open the invitation link, and in the Google Play app.

Screenshots were taken on two phones: the camera phone is in English, the monitor phone is in Russian. Your screens will use your language. The e-mail addresses in the screenshots are examples. Red arrows show where to tap.

1

Check the account in Google Play

Step 1: Check the account in Google Play
Open Google Play and tap your profile icon (the arrow shows where it is, at the top right). Here the first account is active (myfirstmail@gmail.com), but the invitation was sent to another one.
Step 1: Check the account in Google Play
In the menu, tap the account that received the invitation (mysecondmail@gmail.com). If it is not in the list, tap “Add another account” and sign in.
Step 1: Check the account in Google Play
After switching, the profile icon changes to the chosen account. Google Play is now ready.
2

Open the invitation link and check the browser account

Open the link from the invitation email. The page uses the account signed in to the browser, which may differ from the one in Google Play.

Step 2: Open the invitation link and check the browser account
Look at the avatar at the top right of the page. Here it is another account (the letter “C”), so the invitation will not work with it.
Step 2: Open the invitation link and check the browser account
Tap the avatar and choose the invited account (mysecondmail@gmail.com).
Step 2: Open the invitation link and check the browser account
The page must say “You are a tester”. If it says the test is unavailable or there is no join button, the account is not the invited one. Then tap “download it on Google Play”.
3

Install the app

Step 3: Install the app
The app page is marked “Early Access”. Tap Install.
Step 3: Install the app
Wait until the download and installation finish.
Step 3: Install the app
When the Open button appears, tap it. The app comes from Google Play and updates like any other app.
4

First launch

The app turns two phones into a local baby monitor: video and audio stay on your Wi-Fi network and do not go through a cloud.

Step 4: First launch
Choose a language and theme if you wish and tap Next.
5

Permissions: what the app asks for and why

The app explains each permission in advance and then Android asks you to confirm it.

Step 5: Permissions: what the app asks for and why
The “Access needed” screen lists what the app will ask for. Tap “Allow and continue”, then confirm each Android request.
Step 5: Permissions: what the app asks for and why
Camera: the camera phone records video for the monitor, and the camera also scans the QR code when pairing. Choose “While using the app”.
Step 5: Permissions: what the app asks for and why
Location: Android hides the Wi-Fi network name from apps without it. The app does not use your location. Choose “While using the app”.
Step 5: Permissions: what the app asks for and why
Microphone: the camera phone sends sound so you can hear your child, and sound alerts use it. Choose “While using the app”.

Without these permissions the app cannot work fully: no camera means no picture, no microphone means no sound, and the monitor may not find the camera. You can change permissions later in Android Settings > Apps > Leya Baby Monitor > Permissions.

Next time the camera is listed under “Added”, with a green dot when it is online.

If something does not work

  • The app page in Google Play says it is unavailable: check the account in the browser and in Google Play (steps 1 and 2). After you accept the invitation it can take up to a few hours for the app to appear.
  • The monitor does not find the camera: make sure both phones are on the same Wi-Fi network (not a guest network or mobile data), permissions are granted and VPN is off.
  • Anything else: write to us.
